With work like this, is it comic book art, or is it postmodern fine art? I think it may depend on the context: is it appearing in a comic book or graphic novel, or is it hanging in an art gallery? The dividing lines in art are so fuzzy at this point, who knows?!
Basically, much of it often gets down to not only context, but also to the artist's intent. Consider the "fine art snapshot"... is it really fine art or just a snapshot? It depends largely on the artist's intent, and again, the context in which the work is presented and being viewed.
And of course, people have different opinions on what is art and what is not art. I continue to maintain that there is currently no consensus whatsoever on this.
